Another fantastic encounter at the congress dinner in Rotterdam was with Dr. Jan Strojil from the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University in Olomouc, Czech Republic. It’s been a pleasure to read about Jan’s passion for teaching, and balancing the demands of academic and clinical life with being a dad. Jan is currently on a fellowship visit with IATDMCT colleagues at the Laboratory of Applied Pharmacokinetics at the University of Southern California.

This month’s interview comes from Milan, Italy, from long-term member, colleague and friend Dr. Dario Cattaneo (who wins my vote for best dancer at the wonderful congress dinner at the St Laurence Cathedral in Rotterdam). Dario shares his experiences in the worlds of TDM for immunosuppressant and anti-infective drugs, and how recently these worlds have started to intertwine.

After this year’s congress in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, we all went home with some gems to put into practice at work – whether in the clinic, new research ideas or problem solving to better serve patients and clients. We also learned some things about each other: some members have famous children, others are really really great dancers.

With all eyes on the IATDMCT Congess, Tokyo in 2017, we remember the First Congress of the Japanese Society for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (1st CJSTDM, May 13th 1984) and the First International Congress of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (1st ICTDM, October 20th 1988). Dr. Tanaka shares his experiences that led to the beginnings of the Japanese Society, and these two important congresses.
