Main clinical/research activities
I envisage the future of the IATDMCT society as the key player for the tailoring of drug therapy in increasingly complicated patients (elderly, with comorbidities and heavy polypharmacy) at the bedside, taking advantage from the presence of active members with excellences and expertise in several fields. The accomplishment of this task requires, however, a day-by-day, two-way strict collaboration with specialists from different medical disciplines. In other words, the labs need to meet/match the clinics!

To influence patient-centred therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical toxicology at a global level, the IATDMCT should embrace international collaborative multidisciplinary research, thereby delivering high impact research. By developing an interactive regional training, education and professional development program, focused on early career researchers and clinicians, the IATDMCT will be positioned to attract creative and inspiring leaders of the future to deliver its promise to patients and their families to improve their health and well-being.

Patient-centered monitoring and treatment of patients utilizing front line analytical and biostatistical tools. The members of IATDMCT embraces the core functions of tomorrows advanced monitoring and treatment individualization. Our involvement in utilizing already developed tools (e.g. capillary micro sampling, advance matrix analyses, population models) and investigating new options (e.g. machine learning) will be vital for implementation of true patient-centered therapy in the clinic in cooperation with clinicians and specialists in other medical disciplines.

Activities in IATDMCT:
To remain updated with therapeutic drug monitoring and clinical toxicology in order to stimulate research and improve patient care. The latter to be governed by creating and inspiring compelling, effective deep research-driven experiences, using innovative design and best practices and embracing technology and the 4th industrial revolution. This should be applied in research, as well as conferences and must empower our young scientists with the skill set to be adapted for the place of work.

IATDMCT Secretary
|
As a member of the IADTMCT since 2014, I would like further contributing to the learning society by joining its council. The IATDMCT is a wonderful framework for pharmacologists and I will be happy, if my colleagues support my candidacy, to help continuing developing it as secretary of the association.

Activities within IATDMCT:
I joined IATDMCT as a young scientist in 2012 and have been a member from a developing country since 2012. My Fulbright Nehru Fellowship mentor Prof. Ritchie James from Emory University Medical School Atlanta USA did receive my request though IATDMCT circle and it had been a very successful professional journey for me so far. I have learned the nuances of TDM of ISDs from his laboratory and now employing them to our setting in India. IATDMCT has helped me immensely to grow as a researcher and keeping abreast with the world. I have been able to attend the congresses at Rotterdam, Kyoto and Iguazu. I was invited to represent India and deliver a talk on “ TDM in India’ in the symposium -TDM in Asia, at the Kyoto congress. My close interaction with the experienced researchers has always been very rewarding. By sharing the clinical problems in our setting regarding the ISD use, many new research ideas come up to address those questions and the prospect of collaborative research. We have been using the online platform of the University of Limoges for our ISD dose adjustment of our patients. We have also been able to organize a workshop at New Delhi, India in October 2019 entitled “Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of Immunosuppressants: Clinical Challenges and Analytical Issues” at the Asian Society of Transplantation meeting with help of Prof. Amitava Dasgupta of the University of Texas McGovern Medical School, Huston, USA. Dr Dasgupta also visited our center as a guest faculty to. Deliver a lecture and to interact with the. Faculty and. The students. I have been a member of the ISD committee for the past one year and attending the activities of the society. Overall, I have been able to start my research journey with the society and it has caught some momentum thus far, I would be glad to give back by facilitating others in their endeavors.

Current Job profile and Research Interests:
As an Additional Professor of Clinical Pharmacology, I am involved in training program of the MD, MSc, (Pharmacology) and DM (Clinical Pharmacology) students that is in form of seminars, journal clubs, practical classes, and periodic assessments. It provides me an opportunity to get engaged in regular academic discussions on Clinical Research Methodology, Biostatistics, and research data analysis, which are of great interest to me since my student days. I am involved in planning and executing research projects in form of thesis or dissertation of our students and co-supervising students from other clinical departments. Currently I am executing my research work with the help of my doctoral students (5), research fellow (1) and residents (1). We have some ongoing investigator-initiated studies funded by our institute and extramural funding agencies (as mentioned above). Our group focuses on the translational research involving immunosuppressant drugs (ISDs), repositioning of drugs as anticancer agents and collaborative clinical trials. Our department provides Therapeutic Drug Management (TDM) services for Lithium, Phenytoin, Carbamazepine, Phenobarbitone which I oversee. TDM of (ISDs) and research their dose individualization is the need of the hour. I am involved in the TDM of ISD, in collaboration with the Paediatric Biochemistry department and most of the current projects are in kidney transplantation. The scope of modernizing our patient care through TDM, model informed precision dosing and pharmacogenomics guided dosing is immense, and it is my firm conviction that it would certainly make a difference for our patients. At this point of my career, I intend to concentrate on developing an ‘integrated patient care and research’ model at our center.
